Joseph A. Keough Jr.

A founding partner of Keough and Sweeney, Joseph A. Keough, Jr. has been an attorney in Rhode Island for nearly 20 years.  Joe’s practice concentrates in the areas of public utility law, civil litigation, business litigation, municipal law and licensing, personal injury and estate law. His strong reputation in the legal community combined with his deep knowledge and experience has made him widely sought after in his practice areas.

Joe has represented many individuals and businesses throughout his career. In addition, he has represented a number of public utitilites and renewable energy developers before the Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission and the Rhode Island Division of Public Utilities and Carriers.

Joe is licensed to practice in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts.  He has been admitted to the U.S. District Courts for the Districts of Rhode Island and Massachusetts and to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Joe is a member of the Rhode Island and Massachusetts Bar Associations and is a member and former officer of the Pawtucket Bar Association.

Joe began his career at Wynn & Wynn in Boston where he worked as a litigation attorney. In 1995, he returned to his home state of Rhode Island where he worked for the firm of Keough & Gearon. Two years later, Joe and Jerry Sweeney formed Keough and Sweeney.

After obtaining his B.A. at Villanova University, Joe earned his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School, graduating cum laude in 1992. A lifelong Rhode Islander, Joe and his family reside in Pawtucket.
